A few beauty tips for oily skin

It’s not always easy to have oily skin or mixed skin with fatty tendency because it often goes with some imperfections like dilated pores, shiny skin (especially on the T zone), acne, or even black spots. However, this is not a fatality because there are a few beauty tips for oily skin. So, if you have oily skin or a mixed skin with a fatty tendency, this article is for you. But if you have persistent skin issues, please see a dermatologist instead of only considering online articles. Keep in mind that I’m not a dermatologist and I’m just sharing a few beauty tips 😉

Let’s now go through these beauty tips for oily skin:

Tea tree products

Tea tree essential oil is one of the allies of oily skin, especially when you have some imperfections. Indeed, tea tree essential oil is really good at eliminating oily skin impurities and also have purifying, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory actions. So, don’t hesitate to favour tea tree products.

You can also use the oil itself, but do some research about the right way to use it because (as every essential oil) if you don’t use it properly, you can have unpleasant second effects.

Moisturising gel-creams

Having oily skin doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t moisturise your face, quite the contrary! The key is to avoid heavy cream with fats and find the types of creams that are well-suited for oily skins. There are several kinds of creams for oily skins, but the ones that I prefer are moisturising gel-creams. Why? Simply because they combine the benefits of a moisturising cream and a cleansing gel. Gel-creams have a light texture and give you a sensation of freshness on your face.

Clean your face with gentle face cleansers

It’s primordial to avoid cleansers that contain aggressive chemicals, the most widely known of which are paraben, mineral oils, and sulphates (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate and Sodium Laureth Sulphate). This applies to all types of skin because these chemicals are really aggressive for your skin. But when you have oily skin, besides being toxic, these chemicals will eliminate the protective agents of your skin, plug pores, and provoke skin imperfections. Ideally, you should opt for gentle face cleansers that don’t contain any aggressive chemicals.

Exfoliate your skin and apply a face mask weekly

Facial scrub

Facial scrub will help to deep-cleanse your face and to eliminate impurities and dead skin cells. However, facial scrub has become a big debate lately for oily skin. Some think facial scrub is too aggressive for our skin and others preach its exfoliating qualities. Having myself a mixed skin with a fatty tendency, I’ve always been a big fan of facial scrub because it makes my skin clean and smooth. I think you should avoid being too strong with your facial scrub. However, if you have oily skin with impurities, I would suggest you try enzymatic facial exfoliators. They are gentle exfoliator, grain-free, and remove dead skin cells.

Face mask

A face mask is a type of deep action treatments to re-boost the skin in a few minutes. There are different kinds of moisturising face mask, purifying face mask…. So, there is one for everybody. The most popular face masks for oily skin are those with green clay and activated charcoal. Thanks to its absorbent properties, the green clay face mask will absorb the excess of sebum before mattifying the skin. Activated charcoal has an excellent absorption capacity, and it helps to suck up all the impurities and purify the skin.

Avoid product with a lot of alcohol

The truth is that it’s highly recommended not to use products that contain alcohol because alcohol is aggressive, irritates, and makes your skin dry. The other truth that we often forget to mention is that it’s not easy to find a product with no alcohol, no fragrance, and no aggressive chemicals. I think that if you have one or two products with a tiny quantity of alcohol and that suits you, you shouldn’t throw them away. Still, try to avoid products that contain alcohol if you can.

Favour makeup products for oily skin

If you are a big fan of makeup, favour makeup products for oily skin. Please forget the compact foundation, especially if you have skin imperfection because it blocks the pores and the skin suffocates. Opt for light fluid foundations that mattify the skin or even BB creams. Also, avoid applying heavy makeup because your skin needs to breathe.”

Have a healthy lifestyle

There is no miracle diet for oily skin, but the key to healthy skin is a healthy lifestyle. Reduce fried food, sodas, alcohol, and fatty food. Try to eat healthily and to drink 1.5L water per day. Your skin will thank you.
